Exploring Global Supply Chains: A Qualitative Exploratory Case Study

Research Purpose

The business community has experienced sweeping and dramatic changes in U.S. trade regulations that impact the efficient operations of supply chains, from raw materials to the final delivery to customers. These changes impact both transactional and strategic decisions that touch every aspect of the supply chain, ranging from initial product design to procurement, to operations, and then ultimately to final customer delivery.

I am conducting supply chain research as part of my DBA program. The purpose of my research is to explore how supply chain professionals and supply chain managers successfully navigate dynamic changes in U.S. trade regulations when managing global supply chains.

The U.S. trade regulations of greatest interest for my research are the U.S. export regulations, U.S. import regulations, and U.S. financial sanctions.

Eligibility Criteria

Supply chains include cross-functional collaboration among the following domains:

  • Accounting and finance

  • Customer service, product development, and product services

  • Information technologists

  • Legal and regulatory compliance

  • Marketing and sales

  • Operations, inventory management, and logistics

  • Procurement, purchasing and sourcing

  • Quality management, and

  • Supply chain strategy design

I am seeking the following participant types:

Type I - Supply chain professionals who:

  • Are located within or outside of the U.S.

  • Are 25 years of age or older

  • Are individual contributors (i.e., are not responsible for directly managing other supply chain members)

  • Have completed at least 2 years of undergraduate education

  • Have at least 1 year of professional supply chain experience in one or more of the supply chain domains shown above, and

  • Have worked for a for-profit company having products or services that are subject to U.S. trade regulations

Type II - Supply chain managers who:

  • Are located within or outside of the U.S.

  • Are 25 years of age or older

  • Directly management supply chain professionals in one or more of the domains described above (i.e., are people managers)

  • Have completed at least 5 years of professional supply chain experience in one or more of the supply chain domains shown above, and

  • Have worked for a for-profit company having products or services that are subject to U.S. trade regulations.

Participation

Research participants will be asked to participate in one-on-one interviews lasting approximately 60 minutes, using Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
